10 Day Culture and Gorillas

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Arrival at Entebbe international airport where a journeys representative will be waiting to receive you and welcome you transfer to the lodge for check in and depending on your time of arrival you will be taken through the city and also have some money changed on this day.

DAY 2: MATRYS TRAIL

Visit different religious sites like the Baha’i temple Namugongo martyrs shrine, Namirembe Rubaga Cathedral, old Kampala mosque Kibuli mosque among others.

DAY 3: THE BUGANDA CULTURAL TRAIL

Today after breakfast we will set out to visit the different cultural sites of Buganda that are spread across the city, the Baganda are the majority and dominant tribe in the region and occupy the central region. Visit the King’s Palace in Mengo, the Kabaka’s parliament and lake, the Kasubi tombs a UNESO world heritage site and the burial grounds of the fallen Buganda Kings, the Bagala’yaze heritage site and depending on the day of the week we enjoy a cultural performance at Ndere centre or at National theatre where we can also find some souvenirs.

DAY 4: TRANSFER TO SOUTH WESTERN UGANDA

After exploring the cultural wealth of the central Buganda we head out south west for another cultural experience. But before we head out we could vist the Nagalabi coronation site in Buddo where all Buganda king as are coronated and the Katereke prison ditch where prince and princesses of Buganda were starved to death. Later continue on our journey south with a stopover at the equator. Continue to Igongo cultural center where we experience the culture and norms of the southwestern people later transfer to Nshenyi cultural village for an overnight stay.

DAY 5: VISIT NSHENYI CULTURAL VILLAGE

Early morning rise to a beautiful breakfast before we head for a cultural experience like no other. We will be shown the culture and lifestyle of the western people, including how to look after their precious long horned cattle, milking them, grazing them among others.

DAY 6: TRANSFER TO MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK

After a wonderful cultural experience we will continue to Mgahinga gorilla national park via the picture perfect lake bunyonyi. Time allowing we could take a boat to the punishment island where girls who got pregnant before marriage were sent to die without food. Later continue to Mgahinga gorilla national park.

DAY 7: BATWA CULTURAL TRAIL

The Batwa Experience is a living history encounter unlike any other. Visit it just outside the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda, home of the mountain gorillas. The Batwa take you through their lie story, as they take you through the forest that was once their home. They show off their hunting techniques, fruit gathering and their traditional medicines. They later perform their traditional dances and songs.

DAY 8: TRANSFER TO BWINDI FOR GORILLA TREKKING AND CULTURAL WALK

Early morning, drive to Bwindi park headquarters for mountain gorilla trekking briefing, after which we will make our way into the densely forested slopes in search of the mountain gorillas, the creatures are a delight to gaze at. We will spend an hour with them before finally returning for lunch. In the afternoon we will then do a community walk as we visit the Bakiga people and experience their way of life.

DAY 9: TRANSFER TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK IN TIME FOR THE BOAT CRUISE

DAY 10 EARLY MORNING GAME DRIVE AND TRANSFER TO KAMPALA AND ONWARDS

Early morning breakfast and game drive as we make our way out of the park and back to Kampala and onwards.
